The Blues found themselves behind at half-time after Jarrod Bowen’s opener for the visitors.

However, they fought back in the second half with goals from Pedro Neto and an own goal from Aaron Wan-Bissaka, courtesy of Cole Palmer, securing the three points.

The win moves Chelsea back into the top four of the Premier League table, above Manchester City, who were annihilated by Arsenal on Sunday.

Cole praised Maresca for making early substitutions that helped to change the game.

“Chelsea showed good character and mentality,” said the three-time Premier League champion with the Blues.

“It was unusual from Maresca to make his subs early, which he has been reluctant to do. They made a difference. I thought Chelsea were good.”

Maresca made four substitutions before the hour, with Marc Guiu and Pedro Neto replacing Nicolas Jackson and Jadon Sancho in the 52nd minute before Christopher Nkunku and Malo Gusto came on for Noni Madueke and Reece James, respectively.
