The NWFL champions enjoyed a perfect start to the competition with a convincing performance to grab the maximum points thanks to goals from Emem Essien, Folashade Ijamilusi, and Chukwuamaka Osigwe to top Group B.

Essien opened the scoring in the fifth minute with a close range finish from Ijamilusi’s cross.

Esther Moses assisted Ijamilusi to make it 2-0 in the 54th minute before substitute Osigwe put the icing on the cake with the third goal in the 80th minute.

Governor Obaseki has hailed the team’s doggedness and brilliant performance in the encounter.

He said, “I heartily congratulate our darling ladies for their superlative start of the CAF Women’s Champions League campaign with a resounding 3-0 victory over the CBE FC of Ethiopia.

“The team has continued in their brilliant form with their impressive performance, dominating the field of play throughout the 90 minutes of regular time to secure the top spot of the championship.

“They have given a good account of themselves and have kept to their promise of making us proud.

“We wish them success as they continue on their impressive run in the championship and are confident that they will bring the laurel home. Congratulations, champs!”

FC Masar earned a shocking 1-0 win over favorites Mamelodi Sundowns in the other match of the group.

Edo Queens will face FC Masar in the second match on Wednesday.
