During this time, you might not feel very different, especially if you’re used to skipping meals occasionally.

After that, your body starts tapping into fat stores for energy. This is known as ketosis. You may begin to feel tired, dizzy, irritable, or even get a headache. Your brain, which prefers glucose, may not function at its best initially, leading to difficulty concentrating.

If you go even longer without eating—like 24 hours or more your body begins breaking down muscle tissue for protein to convert into energy.

This is its last resort and not ideal. Long-term fasting can also cause drops in blood pressure, blood sugar, and energy levels, leaving you weak and sluggish.

So, while the body is equipped to handle short periods without food, skipping meals regularly or fasting for extended periods without medical guidance can take a toll on your overall well-being.
