Following Nigeria’s disappointing 1-1 draw against Zimbabwe, Super Eagles stars Alex Iwobi and Ola Aina have stepped in to reassure fans that the team remains on course for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The result left Nigeria in fourth place in Group C with just seven points from five matches, trailing leaders South Africa by six points. With qualification hopes now under scrutiny, frustration has spread among supporters, prompting Iwobi and Aina to send messages of encouragement.

Iwobi, currently playing for Fulham, took to Snapchat with a faith-filled statement: “We’ll make [the] World Cup in the mighty name of Jesus.” Soon after, Nottingham Forest’s Aina echoed a similar sentiment on his social media, posting: “We will make this WC.”

Their reassurances come amid growing pressure on the Super Eagles, who have struggled for consistency in the qualifiers. Nigeria had taken the lead against Zimbabwe through a well-placed header from Victor Osimhen in the 74th minute, but a last-minute equalizer from Tawanda Chirewa dashed their hopes of securing a crucial win.

With key games ahead, including must-win encounters against Rwanda and South Africa, the Super Eagles must regain form to stay in contention for a World Cup spot. Fans will be hoping that the team backs up Aina and Iwobi’s words with results on the pitch.
