BusinessDay earlier reported that claims of a verbal agreement between Man United and Osimhen have been reached. Now, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that any deal for the Napoli striker is currently “completely out of budget,” with the player demanding that his new club match his massive wages.

Osimhen, 26, has scored an impressive 30 goals in 35 matches on loan with Galatasaray this season. He is expected to leave parent club Napoli permanently this summer and has a €75m release clause in his contract.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano explained:

“He wants the same salary he’s earning at Napoli: €12 million net, plus commissions and his €75 million release clause. No English club is ready to pay him €12 million net.”

While Osimhen’s wage demands in Europe are around £250,000 per week, a stretch for Manchester United, who are seeking to cut their wage bill, clubs in Saudi Arabia are reportedly willing to offer him triple that amount, up to £750,000 a week. Al-Hilal had previously made several lucrative attempts to sign him in 2023.

Although Osimhen remains a dream signing for many United fans, Romano’s update makes it clear that a deal is highly unlikely unless the Nigerian international significantly reduces his wage demands.

With just a handful of Premier League matches remaining, United fans are already looking ahead to the summer transfer window, which opens in June.

United are keen to move quickly, targeting Wolves’ Matheus Cunha and Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap as more realistic options.

Napoli could be open to a cut-price transfer, but the wage issue remains the biggest stumbling block.
