A statement on Wednesday in Benin by the university’s Spokesperson, Dr Benedicta Ehanire said, Omoregie made the call when he visited the NELFUND office in Abuja.
Ehanire quoted the vice-chancellor as decrying the low enrollment rate of the students and appealed to them not to miss the opportunity offered by NELFUND.
“In furtherance of his students – centred endeavours, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin has met with officials of NELFUND, to discuss the prospect of getting more UNIBEN students’ enrollment into the scheme.
“Omoregie lamented what he described as the current abysmal enrollment figures and appealed for more opportunities for more beneficiaries,” Omoregie said.
The statement also quoted the Executive Director, Operations of the NELFUND, Mr Mustapha Iyal as identifying inadequate sensitisation and doubt about authenticity of the fund as reasons for the low enrolment.
“Mr Iyal expressed readiness of the scheme to include as many students of the university as possible only if they apply and meet the guidelines.
“The NELFUND official congratulated Omoregie on his appointment, describing it as well deserved,” the statement added.
