Why do countries have different flags? What do their colors and symbols represent? These are common questions when examining national flags. Throughout history, flags have symbolized rulers, communities, religious beliefs, trade guilds, ships, and cities. They were treated with deep respect, and losing a flag in battle was seen as a major defeat. In both official and religious contexts, flags often carried sacred symbols.

But did you know that only one national flag in the world features the Bible?

That country is the Dominican Republic.

When people think of the Dominican Republic, they often picture stunning beaches and endless sunshine. However, what many don’t realize is that its national flag is the only one that includes an image of the Bible.

The flag consists of a white cross dividing four quadrants of blue and red. At the center is the country’s coat of arms, which prominently displays an open Bible. The Bible is open to John 8:32, which states: “And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Alongside the national anthem and coat of arms, the Dominican flag is a key national symbol. Its colors represent:

Blue – Liberty

White – Salvation

Red – The blood of heroes

This unique design reflects the Dominican Republic’s strong religious heritage and deep connection to Christianity, making it the only country in the world to feature the Bible on its flag
