Announced on November 8, 2024, by the state Ministry of Works and Transport, the restrictions target tricycles (Keke Napep), commercial motorcycles (Okada), taxis, trucks, and other heavy-duty vehicles.
The Works and Transport Commissioner, Abdulquawiy Olododo, explained that violators face fines of up to ₦50,000. Ahmadu Bello Way, a recently upgraded road and key route for accessing Tanke, Fate, and River Basin areas, will now display restriction signs from Challenge through to the Government House area.
KWARTMA’s acting CEO, Bamidele Michael, highlighted the move as part of efforts to support existing “No Parking” zones and boost safety and security. Additionally, Olododo urged traders to avoid setting up stalls on pedestrian walkways in locations such as Ojaoba, Gambari, and Muritala Mohammed Way. He also warned that driving against traffic (one-way violations) will incur strict penalties.
The Commissioner encouraged public cooperation, emphasizing that the new measures aim to create safer roads for everyone in the state.
