The empowerment programme organized by Auchi Polytechnic in collaboration with Sam Ella Water Gate Limited, was facilitated by Senator Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole as part of his constituency development projects.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, held in Uzairue in Etsako West local government area, Edo State, Sen. Oshiomhole who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Hon. Victor Oshioke, disclosed that 372 women and youths have successfully completed the intensive training in two locations, 272 at Auchi Polytechnic and 100 at Moore Boulevard Hotel in Jattu, Uzairue.
According to him, participants were trained in essential skills such as liquid soap making, detergent, powder, bleach, Vaseline, perfume, and bar soap.
The four-day programme was concluded with the promise of starter packs and cash support to assist beneficiaries launch their own small businesses, providing them with immediate means to earn a living.
Oshioke also highlighted the programme’s purpose which he said include, to alleviate economic hardships in the district by equipping individuals with practical, income-generating skills.
He urged the beneficiaries to make the most of their new knowledge to achieve self-sufficiency.
“This Programme is aimed to empower people with the skills they need to support themselves and their families.
“Rather than waiting for limited white-collar jobs, participants now have the tools to start their own businesses and create sustainable livelihoods,” he said.
The Chief of Staff reiterated that Senator Adams Oshiomhole, a former governor of Edo State, remains committed to expanding these initiatives to reach more women and youths, thereby fostering economic growth within the district.
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude to Senator Oshiomhole, appreciating the opportunity to gain valuable skills. Many of them voiced a commitment to leverage their training to build small enterprises and, over time, to provide employment to others in their communities.
They also called for imperative need for the programme to continue, so as to allow a broader base of residents to benefit from such empowerment projects.
The skill acquisition initiative underscores the senator’s dedication to grassroots development and reflects a hands-on approach to addressing unemployment challenges in Edo North, offering residents a pathway to financial stability and entrepreneurship.
