1. The Federal Government is reviewing the possible effects of the unfolding international tariff regimes and shifts in global commodity prices. The Economic Management Team chaired by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, has inaugurated a sub-committee to handle the assignment sparked by the US imposition of a 14 percent tariff on certain Nigerian exports.
2. Senator Ali Ndume has asked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to be worried if ex-President Muhamamdu Buhari is not on his side. Speaking during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today, the lawmaker said although Buhari has just one vote, he remains an adorable figure in Northern Nigeria.
3. Malam Nasir El-Rufai on Friday asked “adversaries” not to lose sleep over the recent visit to former President Muhammadu Buhari. Ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar led key politicians, including El-Rufa’i, to Buhari at his residence in Kaduna State.
4. President Bola Tinubu was on Friday spotted with the United States Department Senior Advisor for Africa, Massad Boulous, in Paris, France. The meeting between Tinubu and Boulous centered on efforts to address perennial conflict in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
5. On Friday, the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission announced that the country’s crude oil reserves stood at 37.28 billion barrels as of January 1, 2025, with an estimated lifespan of 64 years. The Commission Chief Executive, Engr. Gbenga Komolafe, also revealed that Nigeria’s gas reserves have reached 210.54 trillion cubic feet as of the same date.
6. Hundreds of women of Rivers State have staged a protest against the declaration of a State of Emergency in the state by President Bola Tinubu. The enraged women matched from Isaac Boro Park in Mile 1 to Garrison Junction along the Port Harcourt-Aba Expressway, causing obstruction of movement of the ever-busy road.
7. In a dramatic turn of events, kidnappers in Kaduna State have released Pastor Samson Ali, a 30-year-old cleric with the Evangelical Church Winning All, but detained the ransom bearer, Yusuf Ambi. Ali was abducted from his home in Mararaba Aboro, Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State, on April 8, 2025, just two weeks after being posted to the church.
8. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Kano State Command, has detained 22 suspects in possession of various quantities of illicit substances during a series of coordinated raids across the state. The command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday in Kano.
9. The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) says the troops of Operation Delta Safe, have in the last one week apprehended 49 perpetrators of oil theft and destroyed 22 illegal refining sites. The Director, Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Markus Kangye, made this known in a weekly report of ongoing military operations by the Armed Forces of Nigeria, on Friday in Abuja.
10. The Katsina State Police Command, in collaboration with the military, the Department of State Services, members of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps, and the vigilantes, have killed five bandits in the Dandume Local Government Area of the state. This is contained in a statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer DSP Abubakar Sadiq and made available to newsmen on Friday in Katsina.
