Nigerian Nabbed With Forged Ghanaian Passport At BIA

Katunayake, January 30 (Daily Mirror) – A Nigerian national was arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport, Katunayake by Immigration and Emigration officials while attempting to leave Sri Lanka using a forged Ghanaian passport last night (29).

The 38-year-old suspect had arrived in Sri Lanka in 2019 and was under a triple flight ban imposed by local courts, preventing him from leaving due to ongoing cases before the Negombo and Kalutara Magistrate’s Courts.

He had been previously detained at the Mirihana Detention Center for violating immigration laws but had escaped custody.

However, on January 29 at 8:55 PM, he arrived at the airport to board Qatar Airways flight QR-655.

During the departure process, he presented the fake passport to immigration officers, who became suspicious and checks confirmed it was fake.

Meanwhile, officials discovered a fake Sri Lankan visa and an immigration stamp in his luggage, and the suspect was taken into custody for further investigations.
