Mother Reportedly Dies After Undertaking BBL Surgery In Miami

On March 5, Miller travelled to Miami from Nevada with her sister who also got cosmetic work.
According to reports, the surgical procedure went well, and the sisters were discharged to a recovery home to be monitored for complications.
Nonetheless, the day after, Miller’s sister, Kiera Barnes, woke up to find Ahmonique’s body cold and immobile, still in the same position it was when she fell asleep.
Social media posts indicate that Ms Miller received a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL), which is a procedure that comes with transferring fat from the abdomen, thighs and hips to the buttocks to enhance the size.
The procedure is a challenging one due to the risk of a fat embolism, where fat cells reportedly pass into the bloodstream and travel to the lungs, heart or other organs causing a serious clot and death.
Ms Barnes revealed that her sister may have died from a serious reaction to a medication handed to her at the recovery home, as they received their procedures at Avana Plastic Surgery in Miami.
BBL is no strange procedure in the US, with more than 29,300 carried out in 2023 alone, according to reports.
Ms Barnes stated online that both sisters were actually scheduled to be operated on by the same surgeon.
However, beforehand, the 28-year-old mother chose to switch to a different surgeon, and it could be the reason she died a day after the BBL surgery.
On March 6, the sisters received cosmetic surgery and were then discharged to a recovery house called Keyla’s Recovery House, which is also located in Miami.
On March 7, the center allegedly gave Ms Miller medication that she had reportedly not been prescribed.
Only hours later, the 28-year-old was found dead.
What medication she received remains unknown for now, yet patients are often given strong painkillers in these scenarios.
For now, the family is awaiting a toxicology report to help determine Ms Miller’s cause of death.
Attorney Frantz “Jahra” McLawrence alleges that on March 7, 2025, staff at a recovery home gave his client, Ahmonique Miller, unprescribed pain medication, leading to her death.
He criticized the Miami Police Department’s handling of the investigation, calling communication “sparse and almost non-existent.”
Miller was a Las Vegas entrepreneur and aspiring music artist who had traveled to Miami for a second Brazilian butt lift, as her trip was documented in social media posts.
Miller’s mother, Wakeelah Miller, mourned her loss on Facebook, calling her “my firstborn, my ladybug, my whole life.”
A vigil and balloon release were put out to honor Miller, but Avana Plastic Surgery declined to comment on the 28-year-old mother’s death, saying they chose to respect the family’s privacy.
