Minimum Wage: FG Moves To Enforce Civil Servants’ New Salaries

The inauguration, led by Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, marks a significant stride in the implementation of the National Minimum Wage Act of 2024, which saw an unprecedented leap in the minimum wage from N30,000 to N70,000.

Comprising 16 top-level representatives from both the federal government and Trade Unions, this powerful committee is tasked with negotiating the consequential salary adjustments and developing an implementation template for the approved wage increase.

The committee’s formation is seen as a critical step in fulfilling President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at eradicating poverty and fostering nationwide prosperity.

During the inauguration on Friday in Abuja, Mrs. Walson-Jack emphasized the vital role this committee will play in ensuring industrial peace and harmony within the public sector.

“It is crucial for us to recognise the significance of this assignment, and with a focus on maintaining industrial peace and harmony, I am confident that we will execute it in the best interests of the public service and the nation as a whole,” she said.

The committee’s ranks include influential members from the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, and key Trade Unions.
