On Thursday, FCTA officials, accompanied by joint security personnel, stormed the Sabon Lugbe Southwest area, which is part of the phase five district of the Federal Capital City (FCC). They removed about 10 buildings, mostly duplexes and bungalows, at different stages of completion. The demolished buildings were constructed without approvals from relevant authorities.
Tpl Mukhtar Galadima, Director of the Department of Development Control, FCT Administration, explained that this exercise is a continuation of the administration’s reinvigorated enforcement efforts aimed at mitigating land use contraventions. The targeted areas are notorious land grabbing spots in Lugbe, Idu Train Station (now part of Gosa), Kyami, and Apo Tarfi.
Galadima recalled that the government had previously cautioned against land grabbing and warned that it would take action against offenders. The administration aims to ensure that all structures, close to 50 duplexes and bungalows, built without proper approvals will be demolished.
The FCTA remains committed to enforcing land use regulations and curbing the activities of land grabbers in the Federal Capital Territory to ensure orderly development and maintain the city’s master plan.
