The game, played at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, saw eight-time champions Rangers end Rivers United’s impressive streak. Even though Rangers were missing key players, they proved too strong for the league leaders.

The only goal of the match came in the 15th minute. Hillary Ekawu, filling in for players away on national duty, made a long throw-in, and Rangers captain Chinemerem Ugwueze headed the ball into the net, sending the home crowd into celebration.

Rivers United, managed by Finidi George, tried hard to equalize but couldn’t break down the strong Rangers defense, led by Austin Opara and Super Eagles left-back Kenneth Igboke. Rangers had another chance to score when Godwin Obaje set up Ekawu, but Ekawu’s shot narrowly missed.

Rangers’ goalkeeper made several key saves to protect their lead. With this win, Rangers climbed to third place in the NPFL with 27 points from 16 games, extending their unbeaten run to nine matches.

For Rivers United, the defeat ends their unbeaten streak. They will now focus on bouncing back and keeping their position at the top of the league.
