BREAKING: Zulum appoints leadership for newly established borno hajj commission

The announcement was made in a statement issued on Tuesday by the governor’s spokesperson, Malam Dauda Iliya, in Maiduguri.

Zulum appointed Alhaji Mohammed Mainok as the Executive Chairman of the commission, Haruna Kukawa as Vice-Chairman, and Mohammed Ali Ahmed as Secretary.

Prior to their appointments, Mainok served as the acting Executive Secretary of the now-defunct Borno State Pilgrims Welfare Board, while Kukawa was a former member of the Borno State House of Assembly, representing Kukawa Constituency.

The governor also approved the appointment of Alhaji Haruna Mari and Abatcha Umar as full-time members, while six others—Sheikh Abubakar Kyari, Khallifa Allamin Banki, Ahmed Abdulkadir, Sheikh Gambo Kyari, Hajja Safiya Ibrahim, and Alhaji Yusuf Ali—will serve as part-time members.

The appointments, made under Sections 4(a), (b), (c), and Section 5 of the Borno State Hajj Commission Law 2024, are for an initial four-year term, renewable for another four years.

Iliya stated that the commission will operate under the Office of the Deputy Governor to ensure effective supervision and coordination of its activities.

The newly formed commission is tasked with managing and overseeing Hajj operations for intending pilgrims from Borno State.
