Speaking at the closing ceremony of the training in Yola, weekend, the Director General/ CEO of NADDC, Oluwemimo joseph osinipin, said the training was designed to equip auto technicians with advance skills in repairs and maintenance of modern vehicles which are more of electronic than mechanical these days due to technology advancement.
He explained that the training took place across 3 centres namely Yola, Kaduna and Abuja.
He said the agency aim to continuously bridge skills gap and upgrade technical knowledge of auto technicians in order to create jobs for Nigerian youths in automative industry as well as ensure job retention and wealth creation for auto technicians.
Oluwemimo further expressed concerned over the alarming incidences of road crashes on Nigerian roads which he attributed mostly to break down of vehicles due to inadequate management caused by lack of modern skills by technology.
According to him, “the council in collaborations with relevant stakeholders has so far trained over 20,000 technicians through its light and Heavy- Duty vehicles mechatronics programme and so far, established 21 automative training centres (ATC,s) across the six geo political zones in the country, to foster continous skills development.
“16 of these centres have been equipped with state-of the art equipment’s and tools inline with global trends.”
The DG further noted that these efforts align with the mandates of one of the pillars of the Nigerian Automative industry Development Plan ( NADP) aimed at strengthening skills development and support industrial growth noting that automative industry is a critical component of any nations economy and Nigeria will no be an exception as they are committed to laying a solid foundation for a vibrant and sustainable automative industry in the country.
He commended the Adamawa state government for the support and collaborations as well as the kind gestures given to their trainees.
