The incident which occurred at about 2pm on Friday, along police area, command claimed the lives of the driver, two police officers, two children, old and nursing mothers and other yet to be identified persons, according to a viral video.
Friday is Valentine Day for 2025.
The video, obtained by Blueprint correspondent, showed houses, kiosks and shops destroyed by the truck as well as people mourning and wailing as lifeless bodies of children and aged spread on the ground.
An eyewitness, Mr Sunday Alor, alleged that the truck had brake failure before the police area command and diverted to a market and family houses along the road, killing residents and traders at their homes.
“See this woman crying? Her two sons have died, and she also sustained injuries. There is a woman that was knocked down in her bedroom in this building. The driver is still inside the truck and we are trying to rescue him. But is like he is already dead,” a voice narrator in the trending video added.
However, the Anambra State Police Command and State command of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) were yet to respond on Blueprint Inquiry with regards to the probable cause and number of victims of the incident.
