Chaos erupted at a police checkpoint beside the Nnobi Police Station on Nnobi/Nkpor Road in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, where a ruthless band of gunmen stormed in and fatally shot a policeman......READ THE FULL STORY>>.....READ THE FULL STORY>>
Sources from the scene report that the fallen officer was the driver of one of the police vehicles stationed at the checkpoint.
Eyewitness accounts describe a terrifying scene: “The hoodlums invaded the community on Friday, seeking refuge in a house mere feet from the checkpoint. They broke through a wall, taking the residents by surprise, and demanded they open the gate to allow their vehicles inside.
“In a chilling act of intimidation, they confiscated the residents’ mobile phones, locking them in a room and warning them against raising an alarm—defiance would be met with violence.”
This brazen attack follows closely on the heels of a similar incident less than three weeks prior, when gunmen ambushed a police checkpoint on Omata-Nnobi Road in Nnewi, resulting in the death of another officer who lost his life amidst an explosive assault.
SP Ikenga Tochukwu, the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the grim news.
Ikenga reassured the public that authorities were taking action, revealing, “Yes, it’s true. One policeman on stop and search duty along that road was killed, and there’s an ongoing operation in the area under the directive of the state Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Itam.”
He continued, “This exemplifies the ultimate sacrifice made by our security personnel in the line of duty. They were diligently monitoring the area at the checkpoint when the assault occurred. Rest assured, we are responding vigorously to restore safety, and further details will be shared as the situation develops.”
