In a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency, NSEMA, Ibrahim Hussaini, in Minna, he said the incident occurred on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, around 6:30 p.m.

He explained that the explosion happened when a tanker truck carrying Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, lost control on a poorly maintained road and spilled its contents into a nearby stream where farmers were working on their rice fields.

Hussaini stated that the spilled fuel ignited a fire that spread back to the tanker, causing a massive explosion.

According to him, “The inferno engulfed the farmland, destroying the entire rice field, including fruits and vegetation.”

“As at the time of filing this report, seven lives were lost, with one person injured.”

Those who died were identified as:

Rafiatu Sahabi

Ramlat Shehu

Rashida Abdullahi Raliya

Abdulrahaman

Zainab Ahmed

Zuwaira Idrisu

Maryam A. Nura

NSEMA added that Maimuna Isah, one of the farmers, suffered injuries and is receiving treatment at Saho Rami Primary Health Care.
