Simon’s nomination comes after his stunning solo goal in Nantes’ 1-0 victory over Stade Rennes at the Stade de la Beaujoire on December 8.
The 29-year-old weaved past three defenders before firing a powerful shot into the top corner, securing a crucial win for his team.
The Ligue de Football Professionnel, LFP has shortlisted five outstanding goals from December and January for the prestigious award, with Simon’s effort making the list alongside:
Georges Mikautadze (Olympique Lyonnais), Lucas Stassin (AS Saint-Étienne), Augustine Boakye (AS Saint-Étienne), Maghnes Akliouche (AS Monaco)
Simon’s Impact Beyond the Goal of the Month Nomination
Beyond his Goal of the Month nomination, Simon is also in contention for the newly introduced Ligue 1 Top Assist Provider badge.
The award recognizes the league’s best playmaker, similar to the Top Scorer badge introduced last season.
With five goals and six assists in 18 appearances, Simon remains Nantes’ most influential attacking player this season.
A Close Race for the Top Assist Provider Badge
The Ligue 1 Top Passeur badge will be awarded to the player with the most assists in the league.
Currently, Paris Saint-Germain’s João Neves leads the race with six assists in 16 appearances.
Simon, who has also registered six assists in 18 matches, is tied with Neves and Strasbourg’s Dilane Bakwa.
A strong performance in his next game could see Simon take the lead and become the second player to wear the Top Passeur badge.
Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain’s Ousmane Dembélé holds the Top Scorer badge with 14 goals in 20 matches, ahead of Olympique Marseille’s Mason Greenwood (13 goals) and Lille’s Jonathan David, 12 goals.
