The meeting, held on Tuesday, September 24, came shortly after the Senate resumed from an eight-week recess.

Senator Nwoko expressed serious concerns about the worsening condition of the highway, particularly the stretch between Alifekide and the Asaba Bridge. He noted that the road’s deterioration has become a significant safety hazard, resulting in numerous accidents and fatalities.

“The poor state of this road endangers lives and properties,” Nwoko stated, emphasizing its negative impact on local communities and road users.

In response, Engineer Agbasi assured the Senator that immediate steps would be taken to fix the damaged sections of the expressway.

Later that evening, Senator Nwoko took to X (formerly Twitter) to provide an update, revealing that he had also spoken earlier with the Minister of Works, David Umahi. Minister Umahi reportedly confirmed that contractors would be mobilized to the site without further delay.

“I want to commend all ministers, MDs/CEOs, Heads of Departments, and other government officials who are diligently carrying out their duties,” Nwoko wrote.
