The Adamawa State Police Command intervened and apprehended the individual on Saturday night after he ascended a 33kv high tension pole at the Mayo-Belwa Local Government Area headquarters, demanding the President’s resignation as a condition for his descent.
SP Suleiman Nguruje, the command’s Public Relations Officer, informed PUNCH Metro on Sunday evening that the identity of the man is being withheld. He was rescued on Saturday night and is currently in custody in the state capital.
“The command is going to parade the man today (Monday) for attempting a suicide, You know attempting to commit a suicide is a criminal offence under our constitution, so we are going oo charge him to court,“ he said.
Nguruje emphasized that it is the police’s constitutional responsibility to safeguard lives and property, asserting that anyone who threatens to take their life will be subject to legal consequences.
It is worth noting that on Friday morning, coinciding with the
market
day in Mayo Belwa, the young man climbed the 33kv high tension pole along the Yola-Jalingo highway, declaring that he would not descend until the President left the presidential villa.
Reports indicate that the Adamawa State Police Command enlisted the help of local residents, who ultimately persuaded the man to come down on Saturday night.
Currently, he is in protective custody at the Criminal Investigating Department of the Adamawa Police Command.
It is important to highlight that the man’s attempt to pressure President Tinubu into resigning will be overshadowed by the legal proceedings regarding his alleged suicide attempt.
