The NNPCL stated it is seeking to engage well-known and credible Operations and Maintenance companies to operate and maintain the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company and the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company.
The issue of Nigerian refineries not being functional has been a major source of controversy over the years with many Nigerians criticising the NNPCL leadership for intentionally abandoning the refineries while Nigerians suffer fuel scarcity and pay huge amount per litre. Some Nigerians even began to call for the sack of the NNPCL GCEO, Mele Kyari which have made the oil corporation to step up action.
