BREAKING: NLC Mobilises Workers For Strike Over Police Invitation Of Ajaero

The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, on Tuesday told workers to prepare for a nationwide strike following the invitation of its President, Joe Ajaero, by the police.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

For the context, security operatives raided the headquarters of NLC in Abuja during the #EndBadGovernance protest, after which the police said in reaction to public outrage: “The Nigeria Police Force wishes to clarify that a prime criminal suspect in an ongoing investigation was traced to a shop within the building in the Central Business District, Abuja…This well-coordinated, lawful operation was solely aimed at apprehending the prime suspect—a foreign national implicated in numerous criminal activities across Nigeria and other African countries.”

NLC responded by faulting the claim made by police, who on Monday invited the NLC President with allegation of terrorism financing and treasonable felony levelled at him.

The police invitation has made the workers’ union to mobilise its members for a strike.

The strike proposal is contained in a communique issued after an emergency meeting of the union’s National Executive Council in Abuja on Tuesday.

NEC said it has directed all the state chapters and affiliates to mobilise workers for an indefinite strike from midnight if anything happened to Ajaero.

Citing the communique signed by NLC Deputy President, Ado Sani Minjibir: “The congress will not hesitate to take all necessary actions, including mass protests and industrial actions, to protect the integrity and independence of the labour movement.

“The NEC directs all affiliates and state councils to immediately commence the process of mobilising their members across the nation.

“If anything happens to the President of the Congress or any other leader of the congress in furtherance of these tendentious allegations by the state;

“NEC puts all its affiliates and state councils alert to proceed on indefinite nationwide strike action by 12:00 midnight today.”
