Reports indicate that the operation took place early Saturday morning in the Kwakwalawa and Gidan Yaro neighborhoods, where a significant number of university students were apprehended.

Eyewitness accounts reveal that EFCC agents arrived at the hostels around 4 a.m., leading to widespread and indiscriminate arrests among the students. As of now, the EFCC has not issued any official statement regarding this latest operation or the subsequent arrests.

This incident echoes a similar event reported by SaharaReporters in February when EFCC officials conducted a nighttime raid on student hostels at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA).

During that operation, the agents stormed accommodations near Orita Obele and Road Block around 2 a.m., breaking into rooms and detaining several students.

Many students initially mistook the EFCC operatives for kidnappers, realizing only later that they were law enforcement officials from the commission’s Benin Zonal office.

“The officials did not only destroy our properties, most of the students arrested were assaulted and brutalised. Even female students were assaulted,” a source recounted. “Adonai lodge, Celebrity lodge, Peace Apartment, and others in Orita Obele—I’ll update you with more information later,” the source added.
