“What Tulumbu cannot do does not exist”, those were the exact words of many Nigerians as they reacted to the new #Fuel price by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC)......Read The Full Article>>.....Read The Full Article>>
We are neither prophets nor soothsayers, but one thing we can tell you for certain is that no Nigerian had envisioned buying a liter of #Fuel for a thousand naira.
Indeed, those who did not support President Tinubu or believe in his vision had predicted that Nigerians were making a mistake, but never did they expect things to turn out the way it is.
Now, Nigerians are faced with the reality of purchasing fuel for about ₦1,000 per liter.
“Is this the Renewed Hope?”, many cannot help but whisper behind their keypad.
You see, Bola Tinubu, the then All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate had vowed to give Nigerians a better future if elected during the 2023 election.
With the Renewed Hope campaign he came, dropping words of hope into the ears of his teaming supporters.
“Vote for Renewed Hope”, Tinubu screamed in every corner of the country even as he raised the broom.
As expected, many people believed in this idea while others, especially non-supporters of the APC condemned it as yet another scam.
Well, after a tough election, Bola Tinubu defeated other contestants and emerged as the president.
Tinubu carried the title of president-elect until May 2023.
On the 29th day of that month, Bola Tinubu officially became Nigeria’s number one citizen.
It was at the Eagle Square in Abuja.
Thousands of supporters, party members, and well-wishers flooded the arena to bear witness to a fresh start in the country.
Or perhaps that is what they thought.
As the events of the day unfolded, the master of ceremony called on the president to give his inauguration speech.
Like the president that he is, Jagaban as he is fondly called mounted the podium.
Nigerians had expected to hear the president’s game plan and how the administration intends to save the already dying country.
But no, “subsidy is gone”, Tinubu screamed.
Supporters present at the Eagles Square screamed and cheered.
However, that moment marked a new beginning in the country.
Just days later, Nigerians began to feel the effects of that declaration.
Transportation became unaffordable.
Food became gold, and nearly out of reach for many.
For the first time in the country’s history, Nigerians started buying fuel at unimaginable prices.
This has left Nigerians in nothing but hardship.
That has been the reality of Nigerians for over a year now.
May 29, 2024, came like a thief in the night just as the holy book described.
By this time, Nigerians had seen and gone through a lot.
It was so much that the country topped the list of unhappy countries, according to reports.
Fast forward to today, we mean as you are reading this article.
Many people are unable to go to their places of work.
Transportation fares have once again increased.
When #Fuel started selling in Nigeria at ₦600, many thought they had seen the worst of it.
However, on September 3, 2024, Nigerians received the greatest shock of their lives.
The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Heineken Lokpobiri directed that the NNPCL must sell petrol above the landing cost, which currently stands at ₦1,117 per litre, to prevent the smuggling of the products to neighboring countries.
Hours after this, the NNPC announced an increase in the price of #Fuel across all its stations.
This latest development has been trailed by heavy outrage.
However, there are many who believe that it is for the betterment of the country, especially as Dangote Refinery began production of petrol.
But for now, Nigerians are left with no choice but to face what many have described as the ‘Renewed Hope reality’.
While many mock those who supported the current administration during the election, supporters of the APC are optimistic.
To them, Nigerians will have to endure a little more to free the country from the effects of fuel subsidy.
