This was made known by the Head of the Driver’s Licence Centre, Osisioma, S. Arusi Egbuta who said that despite mass production efforts to clear backlogs, many applicants have failed to retrieve their licences.
The Head of Driver’s License Centre, who blamed loss of registered phone numbers, failure to check SMS notifications, and reluctance to visit the office by the drivers for the backlog of the license, advised those who applied for a licence but have not received any notification to visit the office, as according to him, temporary licences expire after 60 days.
On the issue of accessibility, he explained that due to security concerns, all licence collections must be done at the designated centres.
This follows the vandalization and burning of the FRSC office in Aba South during a protest, disrupting alternative collection points in the past.
Ebuta also warned against obtaining fake licences from unauthorized sources, stating that the FRSC has implemented advanced security features to differentiate genuine licences from counterfeits, maintaining that anyone involved in forgery would face legal consequences.
The FRSC senior official also urged applicants who were yet to undergo biometric capture for their licences to respond promptly when contacted to avoid system congestion.
