BREAKING: Ekiti Seals Collapsed Six-storey Building, Promises Investigation

The State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Karounwi Oladapo, said appropriate investigation would be carried out to determine the immediate and remote cause of the occurrence with a view to forestall future incidence.

According to a statement made available to our correspondent in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday, Oladapo revealed that unconfirmed reports indicated that no life was lost in the incident, during an on-the-spot assessment of the building.

The commissioner, who said that the unfortunate incident was a wake-up call, warned that his Ministry would henceforth be very firm in ensuring that all building in the state abide by government regulations.

He urged all stakeholders, particularly influential individuals and corporate organizations to desist from trying to unduly influence activities of government officials regarding implementing building regulations.

Oladapo said, “These regulations ensure safety, durability and efficiency in building construction. They cover aspects like structural integrity, fire safety, site preparation and more.

“As it is, one thing that is very clear and I want to make it abundantly clear that this property is hereby sealed by the government of Ekiti State.

“It is even the policy of the government, when a building collapses like this, the ownership for the time being belongs to the government.

“It’s a wakeup call for the appropriate ministry, that is, my ministry and I want to use the opportunity to inform Ekiti State that my ministry will be very firm going forward,” Oladapo said.
