In a statement released on Sunday, Femi Babafemi, Director of Media and Advocacy at NDLEA Headquarters in Abuja, confirmed that the arrest took place during the passenger clearance process of a KLM flight from Canada on Thursday, October 3, 2024.
Upon examination of her luggage, officials discovered 74 parcels of the illegal substance weighing a total of 35.20 kilograms, hidden within two of her three bags. This marked Adrienne’s first trip to Nigeria.
According to the suspect, she was lured into the trafficking operation through an online platform, with a promise of 10,000 Canadian dollars for a successful delivery in Lagos. Adrienne cited financial pressures related to her ongoing master’s degree program in Canada as her motivation for accepting the risky offer.
The case highlights ongoing challenges in combatting drug trafficking and underscores the lengths individuals may go to in search of financial support for education and other needs.
