He said this following Russia’s latest bombardment of Ukraine.

Russia recently launched a massive missile and drone strike on Ukraine days after the US cut off vital intelligence and military aid to Kyiv.

Trump, who addressed the press in the Oval Office, pointed out that Putin was willing to end the war in Ukraine.

When asked whether Putin was taking advantage of the pause in US intelligence sharing and military aid to Ukraine, Trump replied: “I actually think he is doing what anybody else would do.”

Meanwhile senior US and Ukrainian officials are billed to have a crucial meeting on ending the war. The meeting is scheduled to hold in Saudi Arabia next week.

This is in Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s effort to revive relations with the US after a botched summit in the Oval Office during which Trump told Zelenskyy he was “gambling with world war three”.

Moscow attacked Ukrainian energy facilities on Friday with massive drone and missile in the wake of the US decision to halt intelligence sharing with Kyiv.

Trump added, “We’re doing very well with Russia. But right now they’re bombing the hell out of Ukraine.

“I think he [Putin] wants to get it stopped and settled and I think he’s hitting them harder than he’s been hitting them and I think probably anybody in that position would be doing that right now.”

Once again Trump insisted, “Despite the Russia, Russia, Russia hoax I’ve always had a good relationship with Putin. He wants to end the war. And I think he’s going to be more generous than he has to be.”

This is coming hours after the US leader had threatened Russia with heavy sanctions following Moscow’s bombardment of Ukraine.
