Rumors concerning the departure of the Franco-Comorian are growing. Last October, some publications reported that he was looking for a new opportunity, information quickly denied by the person concerned, who reaffirmed his commitment to the Mourabitounes.
However, its inability to qualify Mauritania for the next African Cup of Nations (CAN 2025), scheduled in Morocco, has reinforced speculation. During the qualifiers, the Mourabitounes finished in 3rd place in group C with 7 points (2 wins, 1 draw, 3 losses), thus missing their ticket to the competition. A poor performance which made the separation with Amir Abdou almost inevitable.
According to the latest information, the Federation is preparing to formalize the departure of the 52-year-old coach. His successor could be Aritz Lopez Garai, currently in charge of the Mauritanian U20 selection.
