The leaders who made the appeal during a stakeholders’ meeting in Umuahia on Monday, said that adequate release of funds would result to quick completion of the road and save road users from further travails.
The Chief Medical Director of Federal Medical Centre Umuahia, Professor Azubuike Onyebuchi, in his remarks, said that the road when completed would aid speedy movement of sick persons to the health facility for quicker medical attention.
They also demanded the speedy completion of the remaining areas, especially the gully erosion control works in Ikwuano and bad sections of Umuahia axis of the federal road.
In his speech, the member representing South East in the North East Development Commission (NEDC) board, Sam Onuigbo thanked the Federal government for approving extra N14.37 billion Naira on February 3, 2025 for the Ikwuano-Umuahia road which connects Akwa Ibom State up to Cameroon.
He also thanked President Bola Tinubu for approving the commencement of the construction of a Federal Secretariat at Ekeoba, Ohuhu in Umuahia.
Some other community members during the meeting, knocked the contractor for the slow pace of work on the road.
