Sponsored by the lawmaker representing Oyo Central, Senator Yunus Akintunde, the bill aims to upgrade the Federal School of Surveying, Oyo to the first university of Geomatics.
LEADERSHIP recalls that the Bill was read for the first time in the upper legislative chamber on July 3rd, 2024.
Elated Senator Akintunde who revealed the second reading of the Bill to his constituents on his Facebook Page said, “It is my delight to inform constituents that we are inching closer to actualising the purpose of the Bill.
“Federal School of Surveying, Oyo, is the oldest technical training institution in Nigeria having been founded 106 years ago.
“With rapid technological advancements sweeping through all sectors in the world, Nigeria cannot afford not to upgrade a specialist institution like the Federal School of Surveying to the best possible standards,” he said.
Akintunde said now that the Bill has undergone the Second Reading and having been referred to the Senate Standing Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND for further action, “all hands will be on deck to achieve the upgrade.”
