Obasanjo had said that Nigeria is a ‘failing state’ under Tinubu’s leadership during a keynote address at the Chinua Achebe Leadership Forum at Yale University.
He said, “The more the immorality and corruption of a nation, the more the nation sinks into chaos, insecurity, conflict, and disunity.
“The failing state status of Nigeria is confirmed and glaringly indicated for all to see.”
In response, the Presidency tackled Obasanjo, claiming that the former head of state lacks the sincerity and moral authority to condemn Tinubu’s government.
Sunday Dare, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, referred to Obasanjo’s tenure as the most corrupt government in Nigeria’s history and accused him of pretentiousness in the fight against corruption.
Award-winning journalist Rufai Oseni shared a photo on his social media page showing the economic growth performance of past leaders throughout their terms in office.
Data from the World Bank indicated that former President Olusegun Obasanjo had the best annual GDP growth rate from 1999 to 2006 compared to subsequent Nigerian presidents, including the late Umar Musa Yar Adua, Goodluck Jonathan, and Muhammadu Buhari.
Oseni wrote, “I am not saying Obasanjo is a saint, he made a lot of mistakes too but before they abuse him, tell them to beat his economic growth records.”
