Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Temitope Ajaiye, has frowned at the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congres (NLC) over the threat to shut down the economy and embark on a fresh industrial strike. The threat declaration was made at the union’s headquarters on Tuesday morning, following an immediate emergency meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC) to deliberate on the police’s request to invite the NLC President, Joe Ajaero, in light of allegations concerning the financing of terrorism.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
During the meeting, the NEC decided that Ajaero would accept the police’s invitation but emphasized the necessity for the union’s legal counsel to request additional time for Ajaero to be presented before the law enforcement authorities.
Deputy President of the NLC, Comrade Ado Kabiru Sani, has urged the nation’s workforce to be prepared for further instructions if the police actions do not align with the union’s expectations regarding Ajaero’s detention.
In a post via his X handle, Ajayi questioned the outrage Ajaero’s invitation had created, stressing that police invitations do not amount to arrest.
The presidential aide added that threats of strike action and shutting down of the economy by some NLC affiliate unions is needless intimidation of the state.
He wrote,“It appears we are gradually building society where some people can hide under different platforms to assume immunity.
“I am yet to see any reason why Police can not invite NLC President for questioning if there is sufficient reason to do so. Police invitation does not amount to arrest.
“All the threat of strike action and shutting down of the economy by some NLC affiliate unions is needless intimidation of the state.”
