A late goal from Fisayo Dele-Bashiru gave the Super Eagles all three points against Libya.
The result means Nigeria now top group Group D with seven points after three matches.
The Super Eagles are ahead of Benin Republic, Rwanda and Libya in the group.
Eguavoen’s men will face Libya again in the reverse fixture on Tuesday in Benghazi.
Speaking at the post-match press conference after Nigeria defeated Libya, Troost-Ekong cautioned that ‘it’s never done until the fat lady sings’.
“It’s never done until the fat lady sings, they say. It’s a good start for us,” Troost-Ekong said.
“We knew how important this first game was, especially when you play a double-header.”
“We know that Libya came here to try to get a point and they really played very defensively and I think it would have been in their favour if they got that point,” the 31-year-old added.
