The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, and the Secretary General of the union, Emmanuel Ugboaja, are set to be questioned by the Nigeria Police Force on September 30, 2024......Read The Full Article>>.....Read The Full Article>>
This development follows petitions written against the NLC. S harpnews reports that Femi Falana, SAN, a prominent human rights lawyer and legal counsel for the NLC, provided this information while speaking to the publication.
Falana also addressed previous media reports that claimed Ajaero and Ugboaja were re-invited by the police in connection with terrorism financing allegations.
He dismissed these reports as false, clarifying that the invitation is instead tied to petitions from Air Peace, which had accused the union leaders of “public disruption” during their activities.
Despite Air Peace confirming that it has amicably resolved its issues with the NLC and withdrawn the petition, the police still intend to question Ajaero and Ugboaja on September 30.
Falana, in further explaining the situation, questioned the rationale behind the police’s continued interest in interrogating the union leaders after the matter had been settled.
“Air Peace itself noted that it has withdrawn the petition. So, why does the police still want to quiz them on September 30? Yes, they have agreed to the September 30 extension,” Falana stated.
Ajaero and Ugboaja, through their lawyer, had requested a timeline extension for the police invitation, which was subsequently granted. They are expected to appear before the police for questioning on the new date.
