Last week, Obi and Otti held a stakeholder meeting in Umuahia, the capital of Abia State.
Following the expanded meeting, they announced the establishment of an interim leadership for the party, with former Finance Ministe rNanedi Usman appointed as chairperson.
In response, Labour Party Secretary Umar Farouk Ibrahim has reportedly invited members of the National Executive Committee, NEC, loyal to Abure for a crucial meeting in Abuja on Monday.
While the meeting’s agenda remains confidential, sources suggest it will likely address the so-called “Umuahia rebellion” and discuss possible disciplinary actions against those involved.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, was unavailable for comment as he is currently out of the country. However, a senior party official confirmed that preparations for the NEC meeting are well underway.
The source revealed, “The NEC will convene tomorrow to discuss the state of the nation and, of course, the situation in Umuahia.”
The source continued, “We are a political party built on the respect for the rule of law. All members no matter how highly placed must be guided in their conduct and utterances by the party’s constitution.”
