2. Bacterial Growth

While plain water does not spoil like food, it can still become a breeding ground for bacteria if left standing for too long. If you’ve sipped from the glass or bottle, bacteria from your mouth can multiply in the water overnight, making it less safe to drink.

3. Chemical Changes

Water absorbs carbon dioxide from the air, which can slightly lower its pH and make it more acidic. Though not harmful, this can subtly change the taste of the water.

If the water is stored in a plastic bottle, chemicals from the plastic can leach into the water, especially if exposed to warmth or light. Some plastics contain BPA or other compounds that may have health risks over time.
