The summon may not be unconnected to the crisis rocking the PDP in the past few months.

Recall that the party has been embroiled in crisis since the 2023 presidential election.

In the quest to find a lasting solution to the crisis and also to discipline erring members of the party, who have been accused of betraying the party, the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) on August 21 set up a disciplinary committee led by Tom Ikimi to allow members file complaints, look into their complaints and make recommendations to the National Executive Committee.

More that five months after the committee was set, the crisis in the party has not abated and has continued to defile logic. Latest of the crises is between Samuel Anyanwu and Hon. Sunday Udeh-Okoye, over who is the rightful person to occupy the position of PDP National Secretary.

The struggle over who occupies the position has divided stakeholders of the party and members of the party National Working Committee (NWC). While the PDP governors and Board of Trustees (BoT) of the party have throwned their weight behind Udeh-Okoye, Anyanwu refused to back down on the excuse that Supreme Court will determine, who is the rightful person to occupy the position.

Tom Ikimi, in a statement said that the National Disciplinary Committee led by him is committed to ensuring discipline within the Party and restoring the integrity of the Party.

He disclosed that his committee has received five petitions so far, adding that the second set of petitions, which were set down for enquiry are those against former Governor of Benue State, His Excellency Dr. Samuel Ortom and 10 others and the petition against Distinguished Senator Samuel Anyanwu.

The statement reads: “The National Disciplinary Committee considered five (5) petitions received so far; and following a detailed review of the petitions, noted that the first set of petitions were against some key members of the National Working Committee (NWC). The Committee came to the conclusion that in order not to jeopardize the ongoing reconciliatory efforts of the Governors’ Forum and the Board of Trustees, took a decision to step down those three (3) of the petitions against the top NWC members.

“The second set of petitions which were set down for enquiry are those against former Governor of Benue State, His Excellency Dr. Samuel Ortom and 10 others and the petition against Distinguished Senator Samuel Anyanwu.
