The decision to settle for Meranda by the lawmakers and members of the GAC was said to have been reached at a meeting.
According to available information, there were those who wanted Lagos West Senatorial District to produce the speaker after the exit of Mudashiru Obasa, as he is from the district.
However, members of the Assembly from Lagos West Senatorial District vehemently rejected the position, insisting that they are resolute and stand firm with the election of Meranda
Sources disclosed that the GAC members who were looking for a soft landing for Obasa were surprised when the members from Lagos West Senatorial District and others rejected the idea of his return.
They equally said no to the idea of a new speaker, stressing that they are comfortable with Meranda.
The members from Lagos West Senatorial District, who sought to meet alone quickly during the meeting, came back to reaffirm their position.
One of them told select newsmen: “We are okay with our speaker, Rt. Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Meranda.
“That’s what we told the meeting.
“So, that’s where we are and we will not change.”
