Organisers of the #EndBadGovernanceinNigeria protests, which took place across Nigeria from August 1 to 10, 2024, are preparing for another round of demonstrations in October. The new protest, named the “Fearless in October Protest,” will continue to push the same demands as the previous demonstrations unless new issues arise that necessitate additional demands. Adenola stated, “Our charter of demands remains the same. If the country’s situation worsens, we may add more issues.”

During the August protests, which were held despite government calls for youths to avoid participating, demonstrators had submitted a list of demands including the abolition of the Senate, making law-making a part-time job for the House of Representatives, increasing the minimum wage to N250,000, reversing fuel prices and electricity tariffs to pre-January 2023 levels, and releasing and compensating EndSARS and political detainees.

When asked if the protests would adhere to court orders designating specific demonstration locations, Adenola said, “We won’t accept the compliance.”

Human Rights Lawyer and activist Deji Adeyanju also informed our correspondent that current efforts are focused on securing the release of individuals arrested during the previous protests. “All efforts are being directed towards ensuring the release of those who have been detained,” Adeyanju said.
