However, it was Pedro Porro who finally broke the deadlock with a well-placed shot.

The second half saw a different Leicester City emerge, energised by the introduction of substitutes and spurred on by the home crowd.

Just before the hour mark, Abdul Fatawu delivered a pinpoint cross that found Jamie Vardy, who expertly nodded the ball into the net.

“It was a great ball in from Abdul and I just had to get my head on it,” Vardy commented after the match.

Leicester tried for a winner when the scores were tied, and Vardy came close to securing all three points but Guglielmo Vicario made a vital save. Tottenham found it difficult to recover control of the game despite their early domination.

Ultimately, both sides had to settle for a point. The draw provides a positive start for newly promoted Leicester City, while Tottenham will rue their missed opportunities in the first half.

“We should have been out of sight in the first half,” admitted Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou. “We need to be more clinical.”
