In a viral video spotted by Sharpnews, Bello was seen joyfully dancing to a traditional song performed by a group of men. The song, rendered in the Ebira dialect, praised divine providence with the lyrics: “God, we thank you for what you have done for us.”
Bello’s public appearance follows his recent release from the Kuje Correctional Centre, where he had been held over fraud allegations brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The Federal High Court in Abuja had earlier granted him bail in the amount of ₦500 million. To secure his release, Bello was required to produce two sureties who met strict conditions, including swearing affidavits of means and owning properties within Abuja.
The presiding judge, Justice Emeka Nwite, had emphasized that the sureties must possess properties in high-value areas such as Maitama, Guzape, or Asokoro.
Before his recent bail approval, the former governor’s request for bail had been denied on December 10 by Justice Maryann Anenih, who described the application as premature. However, Bello’s legal team successfully appealed, leading to his release on Friday after meeting all conditions set by the court.
The celebratory atmosphere at the Ohinoi’s palace seemed to reflect relief and gratitude among Bello’s supporters, who sang and danced with him. His successor, Usman Ododo, stood by his side, highlighting the continuity of leadership in Kogi State.
Bello’s joyful dance and the song’s message of gratitude signified a moment of cultural pride and personal vindication as he continues to address the allegations against him.
While enjoying his moment of freedom, Bello still faces legal proceedings concerning the EFCC’s fraud allegations. His bail, while a temporary reprieve, underscores the seriousness of the case, as his compliance with the court’s conditions will be closely monitored in the coming weeks.
This public appearance marks a significant moment for the former governor, blending cultural tradition with political resilience.
