The Federal Government has assured that the proposed tax reform bills will not lead to the scrapping of any government agency. The campaign covered various important themes, including World HIV Day, Security Awareness, discouraging the “Get Rich Quick Syndrome,” World Human Rights Day, and the Tax Reform Bills.

Issa-Onilu, represented at the event by David Akoji, the Director of Special Duties and State Operations at NOA, explained that rather than eliminating government agencies, the tax reform bills would require these agencies to clearly outline their budgetary provisions and activities. This move aims to ensure greater transparency and accountability in the management of public resources.

The proposed tax reform comprises four distinct components: the Nigeria Tax Bill, the Nigeria Tax Administration Bill, the Nigeria Revenue Service Establishment Bill, and the Joint Revenue Board Establishment Bill. According to Issa-Onilu, once enacted, these bills will help eliminate the issue of double taxation. Additionally, the reforms are designed to ease the burden on low-income earners, as businesses and earnings below ₦1 million will be exempt from taxes.

Issa-Onilu emphasized that the new reforms would have a tangible, positive impact on the country, particularly in areas such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure development. He urged Nigerians to fully understand the details of the policy, as the proceeds from the improved tax system will be used to fund these crucial sectors, ultimately enhancing public services for the benefit of all citizens.

The NOA is actively engaging in outreach efforts across all local government areas of Nigeria to ensure widespread awareness and understanding of the tax reforms. In addition, the agency is working with health authorities to launch sensitization campaigns on issues such as HIV/AIDS, focusing particularly on grassroots communities. This initiative is part of NOA’s broader efforts to educate the public on various social issues while supporting national development.

Issa-Onilu’s statement underscores the government’s commitment to reforming Nigeria’s tax system to foster economic growth while protecting the interests of ordinary citizens.
