During his 2021 governorship campaign, Prof. Soludo pledged to conduct Local Government Elections within two years of his administration.
In these two years, he has demonstrated his commitment to rural transformation and development by constructing approximately 270 kilometres of roads, revamping healthcare facilities across the State’s 326 political wards, building specialist and general hospitals, and providing free education from Primary to Junior Secondary Schools.
Additional, his administration has introduced free antenatal care and delivery services for all pregnant mothers in the State, underscoring his adherence to his campaign promises.
Thus, working through the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Governor Soludo has made significant strides in instituting democratic principles and strengthening democratic institutions.
He has tackled the challenges in town unions and among monarchs in many communities, paving the way for a seamless Local Government election process.
It is therefore worth noting that many communities in the State had been plagued by crises due to unresolved community development union elections and traditional leadership disputes.
These issues had severely undermined democratic institutions at the grassroots level. It takes a leader of Soludo’s calibre to address the necessary reforms and bring about the progress we see today.
Little wonder, on September 28, 2024, history will be made as Soludo cements his legacy as the Governor who, against all odds, delivered on his promise of a free, fair, credible, and peaceful Local Government Election, exactly as he pledged.
As the Igbo adage goes, “How many lions must a man slay before his kinsmen name him Ogbuagu (lion slayer)?” Soludo has proven himself not as a man of mere political promises but as a leader who stands by his words and fulfills them.
