The All Progressives Congress (APC), on Thursday affirmed Hon (Barr.) Zacchaeus Dare Michael as the party’s flag bearer for the 2024 local government election. Zacchaeus was affirmed at the Kabba/Bunu LGA Secretariat in Kabba. As usual, in the year 2020 when the APC used direct primary to pick its Chairmanship and Councilorship candidates, the party followed the same for the direct primary this year, allowing all members of the party to play a part in picking candidates.
At the Secretariat, it was affirmed that Hon (Barr.) Zacchaeus Dare Michael who was the sole aspirant in the race got 4,107 votes during the primary.
Delegates first confirmed the results from the primary in their respective wards before Zacchaeus’s emergence as the party’s flag bearer.
The Local Government Returning Officer, Hon (Barr.) Emmanuel Boluromi, who handled the task of collating the votes, said because the results from the various wards were confirmed at the Secretariat in accordance with the Electoral Act 2010 as amended, “Hon (Barr.) Zacchaeus Dare Michael, is hereby confirmed as the winner of the direct chairmanship primary of the All Progressives Congress”.
He added, “Consequently, his name shall be forwarded to the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission as the candidate of the party in the 2024 chairmanship election.”
In accepting to be the party’s flag bearer, Hon (Barr.) Zacchaeus Dare Michael thanked all eligible candidates who decided not to challenge him in the primary. He also thanked members of the party for supporting him.
He said, “I wish to express my sincere gratitude to the chairman and members of the APC Primary Election Committee for planning and conducting this primary in a fair, free and credible manner. The same appreciation goes to the chairman of local government and ward executives of our party. Thank you very much for doing a difficult job so well.
“I will like to pay tribute to our leaders Hon Wemi Jones FCIB, Comdr Jerry Omodara rtd, Hon Seyi Bello, Hon Adeyemi Bode, and host of other elders and stakeholders of our great party.
“I thank all other eligible candidates who deferred to me in the interest of our party, unity and overall state stability. Fellow party members, it is with a deep sense of humility that I stand before you today to accept the nomination of our party, the All Progressives Congress to be its candidate and flag bearer in the 2024 chairmanship election.
“As I stand before you, there is no honour greater than the confidence given to me by all of you when you affirmed my nomination. I thank you for your support, I thank you for your guidance, I thank you for being committed to the change agenda.
“I accept this honour as a tribute and mark of confidence to carry the responsibility as we all join hands to continue the good work of the All Progressives Congress to 2024 and beyond.”
