Martins Ortse, a social critic known as VeryDarkMan, has accused Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), of favoring affluent friends with land allocations following recent demolitions in the Ruga area along Abuja’s Airport Road. According to Ortse, Wike’s actions have displaced thousands of residents, leaving them homeless and vulnerable.

The demolitions were conducted by the FCT’s Operation Sweep task force, targeting what were deemed illegal structures. The mass eviction has prompted strong reactions, with critics questioning the social and security implications of leaving such a large community without shelter.

In an Instagram post, VeryDarkMan highlighted the plight of Ruga’s displaced residents, recalling his visit to the area late at night where he observed the conditions first-hand. He expressed concern for residents’ health and safety, noting that he personally distributed mosquito nets to help protect against malaria.

“Dear Nyesom Wike, I heard you allegedly displaced thousands to make room for your rich friends,” he wrote, warning of the desperation such actions may drive. Ortse pointed out that many Ruga residents originally migrated to the capital due to insecurity in their home regions and emphasized that driving them out only worsens their plight.

He urged Wike to consider alternative accommodations for displaced residents to prevent further insecurity, stressing the role of the government in creating sustainable solutions for vulnerable communities.
