Nile Gardiner, director of the Margaret Thatcher Center for Freedom at The Heritage Foundation had said that the President-elect would see Starmer as a “novice” in negotiations.
The Labour leader has reportedly strained relations with Trump, especially after many Labour activists traveled to the US to support Democratic candidate Kamala Harris during the election.
Gardiner suggested that things are so tense that Starmer might not even be welcome at Trump’s Florida estate unless he made significant efforts to improve relations.
Gardiner added that Starmer could take a first step by dismissing his foreign secretary, David Lammy, who has previously criticized Trump, calling him a “serial liar” and a “wannabe despot.”
